Part IV: Evaluation
When thinking about measuring the impact this has had on student learning, it is something that will have to be measured multiple times in different ways throughout the semester and the year. Since I usually get a whole new set of students the second semester, I will be able to compare the first semester to the second semester throughout these evaluations, and within the semester I will evaluate the students learning based on the beginning of the semester to the end, and throughout.
Informal Writings/EvaluationsWith the informal writings, I will be able to compare the students both throughout the semester and though out the year. The students will have an informal question at the beginning of the unit to address their understanding and conceptual knowledge of the topic at hand, starting with quadratics. This will allow me to compare their knowledge throughout the unit, with more informal writings, and then at the end of the unit with the formal evaluations. The informal evaluations will allow the students to work both as a class, group, partner and one-on-one with me to express their thoughts and understandings and be able to evaluate any misconceptions. These will be asked daily and evaluated in different ways such as peer-to-peer evaluation, teacher to student, and gallery walks, to help find misconceptions and work to address those misconceptions. These informal evaluations will also prepare them for the formal evaluation both within my class, and in the state testing a few years down the road.

Formal Writings/EvaluationsWith the formal writings, I will still be able to compare the students both throughout the semester and throughout the year. The students will have a formal question at the end of the unit to address their understanding and conceptual knowledge of the topic at hand. I will be able to compare the students growth process throughout the unit, having had addressed the misconceptions as we moved along. The formal writings will be included on their unit tests, to help prepare them for the future standardized testing with writings. The same rubric will be used for both the formal and informal writings and will be closely linked to the future rubrics they intend to use with the standardized testing.

SurveysA survey will be conducted at the end of each semester to grasp an understanding of the students thoughts and ideas for improvements with this process. I want to know that the students are finding this beneficial for there understanding and that the process taken is helping them excel within their education.
