Part V: How does your project connect with other key issues in Educational Technology
Developing Information Literacy, Technology Skills in Students
Within writing in mathematics, the students will have evaluations of each other and self evaluations of their work. That being said, students will need information literacy and technology skills to accomplish this. With some of the informal writings, students will have the ability to use resources and the proper use of technological skills to find such resources in both answering the writing prompt or for more resource dealing with a problem will be important. Students need to know how to find information and be able to use that information effectively in any type of activity or project with the classroom. However, we will not be citing and using articles daily within my math class, but it still important to be knowledgeable of these skills for their future in their education.

Meeting the diverse needs of your students, assistive technologies, particularly through the idea of Universal Designs for Learning
With the differentiation of whole class, group, partner, one-on-one design within my classroom, and working towards a flipped classroom, I will be able to have multiple ways of presenting material both inside and outside the classroom. This will also allow for me to have the students actively engaged in the multiple activity settings that I will use, such as evaluating with peers and gallery walks in order to show their thoughts and ideas with each other. I think with the flipped classroom, our assistive technology of the iPad will come in handy, allowing the students to be connected both inside and outside of the classroom in a means of different settings. I also think the iPad, Promethean Board, etc. will be helpful in the writing and conceptual knowledge presentation and evaluation within the class. With the writing prompts, the students will have have the ability to approach the situation in a way they see fit, allowing them the flexibility of their ideas and thoughts, all while explaining their conceptual knowledge. These prompts will help activate background knowledge and ask them to explain their understanding, and then give the the opportunity to express this information the way they see fit. With the peer, self, and class evaluation, we will be providing feedback to their ideas.

Social and ethical uses of technology and healthy practices in the use of educational technology
It is really important for my student to understand the technology fair use contract we have, especially when using the iPads. Having such wonderful technologies can lead them to have a lot of freedom to be working both individually and collaboratively, and they need to know the acceptable use of our technologies. Students are asked to sign this acceptable use policy every year. However, it is something that I believe needs to be addressed regularly, especially in the beginning, so the students know what is expected from a 'digital citizen' within education.
I will review legal and ethical practices with my students at the beginning of the semester, utilizing some of the legal and ethical practices of using online materials that are provided within the wiki. I think that students can never have enough reminders of what is expected of them. Within my lesson plan it is extremely important to have an outline of what is expected with the use of the iPad and online collaboration. Students will have access to the internet, apps, and collaborative tools and the importance of appropriate social and ethical uses needs to be stressed! |
Using Technology to Facilitate/Develop Creativity and Critical Thinking Skills in Students
Within the integration of iPads and the use of the Promethean board, I think my students have a wide range of tools to expand their creativity. The possibilities with the iPad are endless, and knowing the students, they will repurpose tools for such use and imaginative ways within writing in my classroom. This tools is open ending allowing them to be able to evaluate each others work, work collaboratively, and develop critical skills to improve both their writing and conceptual knowledge of mathematics.

Using Technology to Engage in Professional Development and Leadership
Within education, I think there is always professional development that you can be connected with to further your own education in order to better you as a teacher and leader within your school. My plan has room to grow and expand throughout my classes, and these resources will allow me for support and ideas for professional development to guide my future endeavors. I am very eager to look into attending the MACUL conference to both better my educational technology and increase my leadership skills throughout my building.
